The Little Local

Katie Spain writes about places, spaces and faces with heart

Author: The Little Local

I tell stories with heart. I am The Advertiser’s wine writer and feature writer for WBM (Wine Business Magazine Australia), Broadsheet, the McLaren Vale Guide, and reviewer for Gourmet Traveller's 2017 and 2018 Restaurant Guide. I am a former farm girl who left Australia in pursuit of stories. Words took me to Germany, London, Sydney and back to my base in Adelaide where I took on the role of editor of Newstyle Media's Fritz Magazine and G'Day Magazine. I am the co-author author of Adelaide Central Market: Stories, People & Recipes (out now) https://adelaidecentralmarket.com.au/product/adelaide-central-market-stories-people-recipes/ and the author of The Producers. I was the Australian Alternative Wine Varieties Show fellowship recipient (2017), Penola/Coonawarra Arts Festival writer in residence (2017) and the SA Writers Centre writer in residence (2016). I am the former editor of Broadsheet Adelaide and features writer and digital lass for News Corp's The Adelaide* Magazine and SAWeekend Magazine, lifestyle reporter for The Advertiser and a restaurant and bar reviewer for The Advertiser's annual Food Guide. I also taught Writing Articles For Publication at Adelaide College of the Arts. My background is a diverse mix of radio, digital and print lifestyle (food, fashion and events) and travel journalism, community building and social media. I've made a career managing social media platforms and websites for publications and companies worldwide. When I'm not tweeting about new cafes, local gems and international trends, I'm writing about them. Print is my passion and I've been fortunate to forge a career that merges the best of both. I love to champion locals and creativity I love nothing more than filling my days with great food, music, art, and travel. I've interviewed some of the biggest names in the entertainment world but get the biggest thrill out of shouting the praises of everyday people with a cracking story to tell. Flick me an email or drop me a line through social media powers that be. twitter: @katie_spain instagram: @katiespainwrites email: katiespainwrites@gmail.com
